Located in the New7Wonder of Nature Ha Long Bay, Cua Van Fishing Village is considered as one of the most fishing villages around the world.
Beside its wonderful natural beauty, Ha Long Bay is also incredible for cultural and historical reasons. The bay is home of ancient Viet people with occupation by various cultures dating back some 18,000 years ago, and many important cultural and historical relics from these people have been found. The fishing communities living in the bay still remain their own special cultures.
Cua Van fishing village is listed as the world’s most 16 ancient villages in 2012. With the unique and stunning attraction and a long lasting history, Cua Van deserves to become the most beautiful fishing village in the whole world.
Cua Van Fishing Village has more than 300 households living on the boats and floating wooden houses in the core zone of Ha Long Bay, which is dozens of kilometers from the mainland. The fishermen have no real house (on land). They live their whole life on the water and their livelihood is fishing and aquaculture.
The fishing village floats on a large area of some kilometers, near the cliffs and limestone mountains. Lovely and small floating houses and colorful wooden boats lie side by side and on the side of the spectacular scenery of the bay. The whole scene looks like a fairyland in somewhere in haven. The combination of amazing and imposing beauty of nature and tiny and colorful boats and floating houses is very eye-catching and super special.
Visiting Cua Van fishing village, you will have chance to explore the unique lifestyle of fishermen. This village has origin from two ancient fishing villages, so it still maintains old traditions and cultures of ancient fishermen thousands years ago. The life in here is unlike any place in the world. There is no sign of modern life – no transport noise, no electricity. Hundred generations live on the boats and stick their whole life with the ocean. The only job that everyone, from children to the elders, from men to women does is fishing. Every living activity happens on the water, even studying. No matter how hard this life is, they keep trying to maintain their cultural and traditional values forever.
Although living on the sea, the environment in the village is very clean and unpolluted. You can ask the fishermen for staying overnight on their boat. It is a interesting experience when spending a light living like a real fisherman.
